U.S. stock markets are trading higher this Tuesday, driven by gains in technology companies and the recovery of semiconductor stocks. Investors are following the corporate earnings season, while remaining attentive to the new tariffs announced by the United States and to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
So far, the S&P 500 is up 0,96%, trading at 7.514,38 points. The Dow Jones rises 1,01%, to 52.364,46 points, while the Nasdaq Composite posts a gain of 1,38%, reaching 25.860,72 points. Meanwhile, the Russell 2000 gains 1,27%, to 2.979,90 points, indicating that smaller-cap companies are also following the market's positive movement.
The volatility index VIX falls 8,26%, to 17,11 points, indicating lower demand for protection during the session.
The semiconductor sector remains among the highlights of the day, following the recovery that began in Asian markets. Nvidia is trading higher after announcing the acquisition of a stake in cloud infrastructure provider Nebius, reinforcing its strategy focused on the artificial intelligence market.
The strong performance of technology companies helps ease some of the concerns related to United States trade policy. Current U.S. President Donald Trump announced a new round of 50% tariffs on various Canadian products, including beer, milk, hockey sticks, and chemical products. The measures are set to take effect within 30 days, while Washington and Ottawa continue negotiating trade issues.
In the commodities market, oil is also posting gains. The September crude oil contract rises 2,42%, trading at US$ 84,48 per barrel. Gold advances 1.51%, quoted at US$ 4.076,40 per ounce, reflecting some investors' search for safe-haven assets.
The cryptocurrency market is following the greater risk appetite seen on Wall Street. Bitcoin is trading at US$ 66.551,23, up 1.68% over the last 24 hours. Meanwhile, the market remains attentive to the earnings results of major technology companies, especially Alphabet, whose numbers could influence the performance of stock markets and digital assets throughout the week.
