The latest update to XRP Ledger (XRPL) is still gaining traction among network participants, even though a significant portion of the nodes are still using the previous software version. Released more than three weeks ago, version 3.2.0 introduces improvements focused on operational efficiency, security, and performance, especially for institutional applications.

The latest figures show that the migration is still happening gradually. Of the 828 active network nodes, 357 are already running version 3.2.0, equivalent to about 43%. At the same time, 426 nodes, or approximately 51%, continue operating with version 3.1.3, indicating that the update has not yet been completed across the entire XRP Ledger infrastructure.

Among the main changes in the new version is the replacement of the main software name of rippled with xrpld. The change comes along with a series of technical optimizations aimed at making node operation more efficient. According to information released by the development team, the update reduces memory usage by between 30% and 40%, lowering operating costs for those who maintain the network infrastructure.

In addition to resource savings, version 3.2.0 brings improvements aimed at developers, strengthening security mechanisms and increasing the efficiency of XRP Ledger operation. These changes complement the fixes previously implemented in version 3.1.3, which had already received adjustments related to vaults, whitelisted domains, and bug fixes identified during maintenance carried out at the end of May.

Even though most nodes have not yet migrated to the new version, the situation among validators is different. Approximately 61% of validators using rippled versions have already updated their systems to the latest release.

The most important data for activating changes on the network involves the Unique Node List (UNL), made up of the trusted XRP Ledger validators. Currently, 31 of the 35 validators on the list already run version 3.2.0, representing about 89% of the UNL.

Since the network requires that at least 80% of the UNL use a new version to consider its adoption sufficient, this requirement has already been met. With that, the expectation is that the remaining node operators will carry out the upgrade gradually over the coming weeks.

While the adoption of the infrastructure continues to advance, another important stage remains in progress. The amendment fixCleanup3_2_0, responsible for implementing a set of security fixes related to version 3.2.0, still depends on validators’ approval.

At the moment, the proposal received 17 votes in favor among the 35 UNL members, equivalent to 48,57%. For it to be approved, at least 28 votes are needed.

If it reaches the minimum number of approvals, the update will apply corrections involving unique asset vaults, a lending protocol, multiuse tokens, permitted domains, and features of permissioned decentralized exchanges, expanding the stability and security of the ecosystem of XRP Ledger.
