X, Elon Musk's company, released a new version of its Android app after nearly a year of development. The update was rebuilt from scratch and promises to improve the platform users' speed, stability, and experience.
According to the company, the new app received improvements in post loading, screen scrolling, notifications, and overall performance. The change seeks to fix limitations of the previous version and bring the Android experience closer to that offered on iOS.
The project began in August of last year, when Nikita Bier, X's head of product, said that the company was forming a dedicated team to redesign the Android app.
According to Bier, the update represents one of the biggest engineering projects in the platform's history, since the team chose to create a new structure instead of just updating the existing app.
“It is faster, smoother, and more reliable. But, above all, it will allow us to create new features at an impressive speed,” Bier wrote on X.
The launch comes as the social network expands its number of tools and services, including X Money and X Chat, in addition to new features focused on communication and content creation.
The improvement to the Android app could also expand the platform's reach in markets where this operating system has a larger share among smartphone users.
Before the update, some users faced performance issues, such as difficulties loading posts when accessing links from the social network. The new version seeks to offer more consistent navigation and reduce these failures.
Despite the launch, Bier said that some adjustments are still in development. Among them are improvements for older Android devices and the integration of Spaces, the platform's live audio feature.
Other features should also arrive on the Android app soon, including a new video editor, video reactions, money tags, and custom timelines.
The new version is already available for Android users through the Google Play Store, with the update made directly in the existing app.
