The stock market today is trading lower this Friday in the United States, with the S&P 500 falling more than 1% and Bitcoin remaining stable near US$ 64 mil. With little time left before the close of trading, technology stocks continue to lead losses, while investors monitor new developments in the artificial intelligence sector.
In the late afternoon, the S&P 500 falls to 7.452,78 pontos, a decline of 80,99 pontos (-1,07%). The Dow Jones Industrial Average loses 373,41 pontos (-0,71%), trading at 52.179,56 pontos. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq Composite posts the biggest drop among the main indexes, falling 1,40%, to 25.520,24 pontos. The Russell 2000 is also following the negative movement and falls 0,44%, to 2.961,47 pontos.
The increase in risk aversion appears in the VIX, known as Wall Street's fear index, which rises 10,45%, to 18.48 points, indicating greater demand for protection amid market volatility.
The main pressure continues to come from semiconductor manufacturers. The PHLX Semiconductor index remains in a bear market during the session, although part of the losses has been reduced in recent hours, as investors take advantage of the decline to rebuild positions.
The recovery in technology stocks since the March lows is being tested again. High investments in artificial intelligence continue to divide opinion among investors, especially after Chinese startup Moonshot introduced the open model Kimi K3, which, according to the company, rivals Fable, developed by Anthropic.
Among the corporate highlights, shares of Netflix fall about 7% after the company reported a third-quarter revenue forecast below expectations. The company said it faces a "dynamic and competitive" entertainment environment.
In the financial sector, investors are also following the earnings reports of banks such as Truist Financial Corporation and Fifth Third Bancorp. At the same time, the preliminary reading of consumer confidence from the University of Michigan shows an improvement in perceptions of the economy, driven by lower gasoline prices.
In the cryptocurrency market, Bitcoin (BTC) is trading at US$ 63.970,15, with a slight decline of 0,14%, showing more resilient performance than the Nasdaq during the session. Among commodities, gold rises 0,46%, to US$ 4.010,40, while WTI oil for August rises 3,93%, reaching US$ 81,36 per barrel.
