Liqwid Finance (LQ) is an algorithmic and non-custodial liquidity protocol aimed at allowing users to earn interest on supplied assets and also borrow using Cardano native assets as collateral. It uses smart contract-based money markets that aggregate liquidity into pools.

How liquidity and borrowing work

In the protocol model, those who supply assets participate as lenders by interacting with the money market contract through the mint function. Meanwhile, the borrower uses the assets they deposited as collateral to request loans via the borrow contract.

Thus, operations are structured around pooled liquidity contracts, which connect supplying and borrowing within the protocol environment.

Role of the LQ token and governance

The Liqwid DAO Token LQ is used to grant voting power to ecosystem participants, enabling participation in the protocol’s decentralized governance. In this way, LQ helps guide decisions related to the system’s operation.

When LQ is staked, it also acts as a reserve asset, associated with two yield layers mentioned in the protocol: gains linked to liquidations and a portion of total revenue.
