Current U.S. President Donald Trump once again defended his family's cryptocurrency-related businesses after the disclosure of financial information detailing billions of dollars in revenue from the sector. The statements were made during an interview with CNBC, a few days after the publication of his most recent financial disclosure.
The document, submitted to the United States Office of Government Ethics, revealed that Trump reported more than US$ 2.2 billion in gains throughout 2025. A large part of this amount is related to cryptocurrency investments, decentralized finance (DeFi) projects, and digital assets associated with his brand.
Among the main reported figures are approximately US$ 594 million from World Liberty Financial (WLFI), a DeFi company created in partnership with his sons. The disclosure also points to around US$ 636 million obtained from the sale of digital currencies linked to the Trump name, in addition to the ownership of more than US$ 50 million in Bitcoin stored in a cold wallet.
Asked by journalist Joe Kernen about the family's involvement in these operations, Trump initially responded: "No", before adding: "I could know. I didn't know, I mean, there's nothing illegal, there's nothing wrong with it. I could know."
According to the president, his assets are managed by trust funds overseen by his sons, Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr., as well as external managers responsible for investment decisions. He stated that he does not participate in these choices and that he does not even maintain direct contact with the administrators responsible for the resources.
"I don't even know who they are," Trump said when commenting on the fund managers who manage his wealth. In the president's assessment, the broad influence exerted by the office means that virtually any business activity by family members can be interpreted as a potential conflict of interest.
During the interview, Trump also commented on his sons' role in private business. “I tell my children: stay away from everything you can. But they also have a life”, he said.
In addition to defending the legality of the operations, the president reinforced his position that cryptocurrencies represent a strategic sector for the U.S. economy. According to Trump, the United States needs to remain competitive in this segment to avoid losing ground to other powers that are also increasing investments in financial technology and digital assets.
