Spot Bitcoin ETFs in the United States closed Wednesday with net outflows of US$ 225 million, while Ethereum ETFs recorded inflows of US$ 26 million. The difference in capital flow draws attention at a time of greater caution among institutional investors.
The move took place on a pressured day for risk assets. The release of earnings from major technology companies affected market sentiment, highlighted by the drop of about 7% in Google shares. Intel and Tesla also declined, even after reporting numbers above estimates, signaling an environment of elevated expectations and lower tolerance for surprises.
In the cryptocurrency market, Bitcoin fell below US$ 64 thousand, while Ethereum approached US$ 1.858. Solana traded near US$ 74, and XRP remained around US$ 1,09. Prices did not suffer abrupt drops, but reflected the loss of momentum in risk appetite.
ETF flow data continue to be one of the main gauges of institutional behavior. The outflow of US$ 225 million in a single day does not, in isolation, represent a structural change, but gains relevance as it occurs alongside a Fear and Greed Index at 28, indicating a predominance of caution in the market.
Meanwhile, inflows into Ethereum ETFs, although modest, point to a possible reallocation of capital. Some investors appear to be seeking exposure to assets with distinct narratives, such as the DeFi ecosystem and the development of the Ethereum network, especially in moments of macroeconomic uncertainty.
The correlation between cryptocurrencies and stocks became evident again. On days of risk aversion, price behavior tends to follow the traditional market, reducing the perception of decorrelation. This effect intensifies when the technology sector leads downward moves.
Among the main assets, Solana posted the largest daily pullback, with a drop of 3,1%, followed by Ethereum and Bitcoin. Over a seven-day window, however, Bitcoin still maintained a slight gain of 1,5%, which limits more pessimistic short-term readings.
The focus now turns to the continuity of ETF flows. Isolated moves may be noise, but sequences of outflows tend to indicate clearer changes in institutional positioning. At the same time, the performance of Ethereum ETFs is beginning to gain relevance as a possible sign of diversification within the cryptocurrency market.
