“I don’t do Spotify anymore. I’m just on Tune.FM,” Snoop said in an interview with Billboard, expressing his dissatisfaction with the earnings of the most popular streaming platform. This statement came after the artist exposed, in a podcast called Business Untitled, how the royalties paid by Spotify did not meet his expectations, even after reaching more than a billion streams.
“They just sent me some s**t from Spotify where I got a billion streams,” Snoop revealed, disappointed. “My publisher approached me. I said, ‘Break this down, how much money is this?’ This s**t wasn’t even $45.000.”
Spotify, for its part, has defended itself against criticism by claiming that its business model is designed to support artists of all levels. However, many artists like Snoop Dogg continue to argue that streaming platforms take the lion's share of the profits, leaving them with an unsatisfactory share of the earnings.
