Ripple announced a new partnership with the sports department of the University of Kansas, making XRP the first cryptocurrency displayed on the uniforms of a major university athletics program in the United States.
The sponsorship agreement provides for the application of an XRP-branded patch on the uniforms of the Kansas Jayhawks teams, including one of the country's most traditional university sports programs.
The initiative comes after a change in NCAA rules, which allowed Division I teams to display corporate brands on their uniforms starting in August, creating room for new forms of commercial exposure in college sports.
The partnership also involves educational projects. Ripple said it intends to support programs focused on financial and technological education for student-athletes, in addition to expanding its talent recruitment program linked to the technology sector.
Travis Goff, director of athletics at the University of Kansas, highlighted the connection between the sports community and the company's proposal.
"Ripple recognizes the unique reach and passion of the Jayhawk community, and we are proud that they have chosen the University of Kansas Athletics Department as a prominent platform to present XRP to millions of sports fans," said Travis Goff, director of athletics at the University of Kansas. "Displaying the XRP logo on our Jayhawk uniforms reflects a shared commitment to innovation and excellence."
The move also comes after the end of the long-running legal process between Ripple and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which has shaped XRP's trajectory in recent years.
In 2020, the SEC accused the company of conducting an offering of US$ 1,3 billion in XRP that the regulator deemed irregular. The case led to restrictions on some trading platforms and brought uncertainty about the digital asset.
After the legal disputes ended, Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse said the company intends to strengthen the utility of XRP and its presence across different sectors.
"For four years, a lawsuit that should never have been filed cost XRP holders real value, brokerages removed one of the main digital assets from their platforms, and they created doubts that had nothing to do with the technology or its utility," Garlinghouse said in a statement. "With the lawsuit now closed, it's time to remind people what makes XRP unique, useful, and worthy of attention."
With the exposure on the uniforms of the Kansas Jayhawks, Ripple is expanding the presence of the XRP cryptocurrency beyond the traditional financial market, bringing the brand closer to millions of sports fans and students in the United States.
