Netflix confirmed on Thursday (30) the main cast of its next drama series “The Altruist”, based on the trajectory of Sam Bankman-Fried and Caroline Ellison, central figures in the collapse of the brokerage FTX and Alameda Research. The drama, composed of eight episodes, will be produced by Higher Ground, production company of Barack and Michelle Obama.

The production aims to portray, in an immersive way, the rise and fall of one of the biggest names in cryptocurrencies and financial technology in recent years. The series will feature Anthony Boyle in the role of Bankman-Fried, while Julia Garner will play Caroline Ellison.
Boyle, known for his roles in “Masters of the Air” and “Tolkien,” takes on the role of the former CEO of FTX, who was blamed for one of the industry’s biggest financial scandals. Garner, who won three Emmys for “Ozark” and also starred in “Inventing Anna,” will play the former CEO of Alameda Research.
Netflix’s description sums up the plot as a story of “two hyper-intelligent young idealists [who] attempt to remake the global financial system in the blink of an eye… only to seduce each other and steal $8 billion.” The script promises to address both the personal and professional aspects of the duo involved in the downfall of one of the world’s largest cryptocurrency platforms.
The project will be directed by James Ponsoldt in the pilot episode, and will have Graham Moore — an Oscar winner for “The Imitation Game” — and Jacqueline Hoyt as showrunners. Moore said: “For almost three years, the story of Sam and Caroline has been my daily obsession.”
While there is no release date yet, it is speculated that both Bankman-Fried and Ellison may watch the adaptation. Caroline is serving her sentence until May 2026, and Sam, sentenced to 25 years, could benefit from good behavior credits and reduce his time behind bars.
With a strong cast and production focused on details, “The Altruist” promises to attract both streaming platform audiences and investors and cryptocurrency market enthusiasts.
