MoonPay announced the integration of the Discover Network as a new payment option for users in the United States, allowing the purchase and sale of cryptocurrencies through another of the country's main card networks. The new feature expands the alternatives available on the platform and seeks to reduce barriers for consumers interested in digital assets.
With the update, Discover joins the group formed by Visa and Mastercard, becoming the third major card network in the United States compatible with MoonPay's services. In addition to traditional cards, the company also supports Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, Venmo, bank transfers, and different regional payment methods.
Although Discover cards were already accepted at some companies in the cryptocurrency sector, MoonPay's announcement specifically involves the integration of the Discover Network, responsible for processing transactions between merchants and cardholders. In practice, eligible cards that use this network will be able to be used to trade cryptocurrencies on the platform.
Even so, the availability of this feature depends on the rules established by the issuing bank of each card. Even with the integration completed, some financial institutions may restrict or prevent operations related to the purchase of cryptocurrencies according to their internal policies.
"Each payment method we add removes one reason why someone does not complete the purchase," said Richard Harrison, vice president of banking and payments partnerships at MoonPay, in a statement. "We built MoonPay on a simple principle: all forms of payment that people already use should work for cryptocurrencies. We are enabling Discover Network cardholders to pay for cryptocurrencies the same way they pay for everything else."
The expansion comes after important changes involving Discover itself. In 2025, Capital One Financial completed the acquisition of Discover Financial Services for US$ 35 billion, a deal originally announced in February 2024. Months later, it also completed the purchase of fintech Brex, a company that supports payments using stablecoins, in a transaction valued at US$ 5,15 billion.
Founded in 2019, MoonPay operates in connecting fiat currencies and cryptocurrencies for consumers and businesses. According to the company, its base exceeds 30 million customers worldwide, in addition to serving more than 500 companies in the cryptocurrency and financial technology sectors.
The company also expanded its presence in solutions focused on artificial intelligence. At the beginning of this year, it launched MoonPay Agents, a non-custodial infrastructure that allows AI agents to create digital wallets and execute transactions autonomously, expanding the use of cryptocurrencies in automated applications.
MoonPay's investors include Tiger Global Management, Coatue, Justin Bieber, and Paris Hilton. In 2021, the company raised US$ 555 million in a Series A round, reaching a valuation of US$ 3,4 billion. Last year, it also secured a revolving credit line of US$ 200 million from Galaxy and reported that it ended 2025 with positive cash flow, profit, and 112% growth in net revenue compared to the previous year.
