Verge (XVG) is a cryptocurrency focused on privacy and security, with the proposal of improving the anonymity of transactions on the blockchain. Its trajectory began in 2014, under the name DogecoinDark, and it was created to offer a more private experience than traditional public observation.

Privacy and anonymity in practice

Verge uses anonymity-focused networks, including TOR and I2P. The project describes that users' IP addresses are obfuscated and that the Core QT wallet includes TOR integration and SSL encryption.

An update referred to as Wraith Protocol enables stealth addressing services to allow sending and receiving payments privately. This package is also described as a way to migrate QT users to usage with Tor enabled by SSL.

Technology, transactions, and ledgers

With Wraith Protocol technology, Verge begins to allow users to switch between private and public records on the same blockchain. Previously, the presented idea was that the ledgers did not coexist under similar conditions.

The project also mentions that, when Wraith Protocol is active, transaction data would not be viewable even via a blockchain explorer. In addition, the network uses Simple Payment Verification and indicates a transaction time of 5 seconds.

Mining and community

Verge operates Proof of Work (PoW) with five mining algorithms: Lyra2rev2, Scrypt, X17, blake2s, and myr-groestl. The choice of multiple algorithms is presented as a means of broadening participation and allowing a change if one method requires more resources.

As it is an open source project with an active team and an engaged community, the direction of development is discussed with participants. This approach combines privacy with a structure of continuous collaboration.
