About

What is QuarkChain (QKC)?

Everything you need to know about QuarkChain: origin, how it works, supply and official resources.

QuarkChain (QKC) is a decentralized, permissionless blockchain focused on scalability. The project combines an architecture designed to expand processing capacity and keep distributed applications faster and more secure.

How the two-layer architecture works

QuarkChain uses a two-level structure. The first layer is made up of shards, which perform processing, while the second is a root blockchain responsible for confirming the shards' blocks.

In addition, the shards follow an elastic model, with the possibility of reconfiguration without requiring changes to the root layer, which helps adjust the network according to demand.

Security and resistance to attacks

To protect transactions, QuarkChain directs at least 50% of the hash power to the root layer. This allocation seeks to make double-spending attacks more difficult, especially as it relies on a decentralized network.

The goal is to maintain security while the network increases its performance, reducing incentives that could lead to centralization.

Scalability and use for decentralized applications

The project seeks to solve scalability limitations faced by other networks by using sharding to increase the volume of transactions per second. The proposal also considers the participation of multiple low-cost nodes that form a cluster, functioning as a super-full node without the high costs associated with TPS growth.

With this, QuarkChain positions itself as a high-throughput peer-to-peer blockchain to support decentralized applications with greater speed.

Development history

QuarkChain's main work began in the second quarter of 2017, with research on the scalability problem in blockchains. In 2017, the whitepaper was prepared, and in 2018 the whitepaper was released along with progress toward initial versions of code, wallet, and testnet.

Development continued with versions aimed at testnet and smart contracts, in addition to the planned evolution toward QuarkChain Core, mainnet, and SmartWallet.
