Flare is an EVM-based Layer 1 blockchain focused on building applications interoperable with other blockchains and the internet. The network was designed to enable new use cases by providing decentralized access to high-integrity data.

How interoperability works

Flare has native interoperability protocols, such as the State Connector and the FTSO, secured by the network itself. This allows data from off-chain sources to be delivered in a reliable and decentralized way.

The State Connector makes it possible for information from other blockchains and the internet to be used with smart contracts on Flare in a secure, scalable, and trustless manner. As a result, developers can integrate different data sources into applications.

Oracles and data for dapps

Flare’s Time Series Oracle provides price feeds and data for dapps on the network. The goal is to reduce dependence on centralized providers by delivering information with a high degree of decentralization.

In addition, the data infrastructure is created natively on the blockchain, minimizing risks by using a broad base of independent providers. By incentivizing groups of participants to collect and process data, the system seeks to avoid a single point of origin.

What the FLR token is used for

FLR is the native token used for payments, transaction fees, and staking on validator nodes. These functions also help mitigate spam on the network.

There is also the tokenized version WFLR (ERC-20), which can be created from FLR deposits. WFLR can be delegated to FTSO data providers and also used in staking for governance participation, without preventing its use in EVM-compatible dapps on Flare.
