Fei USD (FEI) is a stablecoin aimed at the DeFi ecosystem, designed to maintain its peg to the dollar with a decentralized model. The project uses a mechanism called protocol controlled value (PCV) to support liquid secondary markets.

How Fei USD works

In FEI, the protocol controls value via PCV to support the asset's stability. The proposal seeks to be more capital-efficient, in addition to promoting a fairer distribution among participants.

With this value control, the system is able to operate autonomously within the protocol's own environment, maintaining liquidity in usage and trading markets.

Purpose and use in DeFi

Fei USD was created to meet the needs of DeFi without relying on centralized assets as collateral. The idea is to facilitate integrations and use within decentralized applications.

FEI is also presented as a stablecoin that directs the ecosystem's dynamics toward the next generation of integration in the sector.

Fei Labs and the development of FEI

Fei Labs is the team behind FEI, with a focus on a highly scalable, decentralized, reserve-backed stablecoin. The stated objective is to provide a consistent foundation for DeFi infrastructure.

Fei v2 was launched at the end of 2021, including 1:1 redeemability and mechanisms such as TRIBE buybacks/backstop, in addition to algorithmic PCV management.
