About

What is eBTC (EBTC)?

Everything you need to know about eBTC: origin, how it works, supply and official resources.

eBTC (EBTC) is an infrastructure layer focused on aggregating Bitcoin liquidity and enabling yields in decentralized applications. It seeks to reduce the fragmentation of BTC liquidity across different formats and simplify the use of the asset in DeFi.

How eBTC works

The proposal is to allow users to deposit BTC in different standards and receive a unified version of BTC from the eBTC ecosystem. This makes it possible to interact with DeFi protocols without relying on conventional Bitcoin staking approaches.

eBTC also acts as an aggregation solution, bringing together liquidity that was distributed across multiple BTC representations, such as native BTC, BTC LSTs, and tokenized BTC.

Integration with DeFi and Bitcoin standards

eBTC was designed to integrate with native Bitcoin Layer 2 solutions, including Babylon, BSquared, and Bitlayer. In this way, the aggregated liquidity can be used in compatible contexts within the ecosystem.

In addition, the infrastructure supports BTC liquid staking tokens such as PumpBTC and LBTC, as well as wrapped tokens such as wBTC and fBTC, increasing flexibility for different integration needs.

Technology and security

To increase transparency in the aggregation layer, eBTC uses Proof-of-Reserve. This approach aims to help ensure that the BTC assets accepted by the infrastructure are secure and verifiable.

Where eBTC fits in

By focusing on crypto-backed tokens and on organizing Bitcoin liquidity for use in DeFi, eBTC is directly related to advancing utility for BTC-linked assets. The project also connects to environments such as the Starknet Ecosystem and the Monad Ecosystem, within the goal of facilitating access to aggregated liquidity.
