EigenLayer’s official X account was hacked so that criminals could promote a fake airdrop to scam potential investors. The Eigen Labs team has warned users not to fall for any kind of scam.
“The handle @EigenLayer has been compromised. Please do not engage with any suspicious links and actively check and confirm that you are engaging with ‘eigenlayer.xyz’. An update will be provided once it is secured,” wrote Eigen Labs.
The scammers’ first post appeared to promote a fake reallocation of EIGEN tokens for Season 2 of EigenLayer’s stakeholder airdrop using a malicious link, cryptocurrency anti-scam platform Scam Sniffer noted.
The second post asked users to make a claim. However, the Season 2 stakedrop was officially announced in September, and the claim period has now closed.
EIGEN is the native token of the Eigenlayer ecosystem, a restaking protocol that aims to improve the security and scalability of the Ethereum network.
Eigenlayer is an innovative protocol that uses the EIGEN token to ensure the security of various digital tasks. Unlike traditional work tokens, which are directly related to specific tasks, EIGEN addresses a broader category of problems where validation does not depend solely on cryptographic proofs.
