Paul Grewal, Coinbase's chief legal officer, urged the United States Senate to move forward with the Clarity Act after the public support of the National Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) for the latest version of the bill.

The statement came after journalist Eleanor Terrett disclosed the FOP's position, an organization that participates in discussions on the legislation intended to establish rules for the cryptocurrency market in the US.

Grewal highlighted the support of the police entity and called for a similar position from senators. In his statement, he asked whether the Senate also supported the revised version of the bill or intended to oppose the proposal.

The FOP stated that the changes incorporated into the Clarity Act addressed concerns previously raised by the organization. At the same time, according to the entity, the text preserves tools considered necessary for investigations involving cryptocurrency-related crimes.

The position was formalized by FOP national president Patrick Yoes in a letter sent to Senate Banking Committee Chairman Tim Scott and Senator Elizabeth Warren.

In the correspondence, Yoes indicated that the updated version found a more appropriate balance between encouraging innovation in the digital assets sector and allowing law enforcement authorities to combat fraud and illicit financing activities.

The FOP's support adds a relevant endorsement to the discussion surrounding the Clarity Act, which seeks to establish a clearer regulatory framework for the cryptocurrency market in the United States.

The proposal is under review in Congress and still depends on further legislative steps before any eventual approval. The position of groups linked to law enforcement may increase pressure on lawmakers during the process.

For companies in the sector, such as Coinbase, the definition of clearer rules remains among the main points on the regulatory agenda. Grewal used the FOP's support to reinforce the call for Senate action on the bill.
