A Bitcoin whale once again drew the attention of the cryptocurrency market by moving 2.931 BTC, valued at approximately US$ 188 million, after remaining inactive for nearly eight years. The transfer was identified through on-chain data and quickly began to be monitored by investors, since operations of this size usually spark speculation about the next moves of the currency's large holders.
The transaction took place on Sunday, when the bitcoins were sent from the wallet identified as "356my…BAsmK" to a new address, "bc1qn…8gp25". So far, the assets remain stored in the destination wallet, without any further movement.
The record shows that the source address had last been used on October 23, 2018. At that time, Bitcoin was trading near US$ 6.475, which means the position has accumulated an appreciation of nearly ten times since then.
The reason for the transfer is still unknown. Movements of this kind may be related to custody reorganization, wallet security upgrades, or even preparation for future market operations. As there was no transfer to exchanges nor any new transactions after the transfer, there are still no concrete signs of a possible sale.
Large inactive wallets are usually closely monitored because their movements can influence investor sentiment. Whenever a Bitcoin whale becomes active again after several years, the market follows on-chain data to understand whether the operation represents only an address change or the beginning of a broader movement.
Similar cases have been recorded since Bitcoin reached new price records. In July 2025, for example, a wallet that remained inactive for about 14 years moved more than US$ 8,7 billion in BTC, becoming one of the largest transfers ever recorded involving old coins.
While the market monitors the next steps of this whale, Bitcoin is trading near US$ 63 thousand, down approximately 1% on the day. The absence of new movements keeps attention focused on on-chain records, which may reveal whether the bitcoins will remain stored or will be transferred again in the coming hours or days.
