Input Output (IOHK) Director of African Operations reveals the team's plan to showcase Cardano's technology capabilities in Ethiopia and other nations across the continent.

In an interview with a YouTuber channel, IOHK's director of operations in Africa, James O'Connor, highlights Cardano (ADA) and the group's plans for its digital identity infrastructure in Ethiopia.

After closing a major deal with the country's government in April, the ADA is ready to launch and help digitize Ethiopia's education industry.

When asked whether the continent will see more adoption in other countries, O'Connor said the team has plans to showcase the technology blockchain for about seven or eight nations in Africa.

“We will do a roadshow in October. So Charles and I and a few other people on the AI team will be going around, I think about seven or eight countries right now. We are meeting with some of the high-level officials, senior government officials, presidents, all interested in learning more about our identity solution.

Some of them are interested in central bank digital currencies (CBDCs). Some of them are interested in remittances and microfinance opportunities. So really what they're trying to do is start putting together a toolbox of what the blockchain can do for you as a nation-state. ”

Approaching a five-year plan, O'Connor would like to see IOHK pass the torch on to other developers around the world to expand the ADA network and bring financial services to unbanked populations.

“So for us, it's really going to have to be around handing the input and output torch to something that's more scalable. We have these high-level goals – we want 100 million users using Atala Prisma. We want so many nation-states using our system. We want a Cardano nation where all infrastructure is built in Cardano in a single country.

Well, it's not just going to happen to us… If we want to grow, we have to start getting involved in a wider community, and we can't just be us anymore. So that's what it would be for me – a thriving ecosystem of partners, developers … in each of these countries that can really leverage our technology and make a mark on the unbanked billion, which is our mission statement. ”
