Base blockchain records new interruption on the mainnet in two days

The Base, a second-layer blockchain incubated by Coinbase, once again faced an interruption in block production, marking the second incident recorded in just two days. The failure was identified on Friday and, although it was resolved in a short time, it once again drew attention to the network's operational stability shortly after a major protocol upgrade.
According to information released by the Base team, an alert was issued at 15h33 UTC stating that developers were investigating an abnormality on the main network. Shortly afterward, the problem was identified and fixed. At 16h11 UTC, block production had already been restored and the blockchain resumed operating normally.
After services were normalized, the team instructed network infrastructure operators to carry out a specific procedure to fully restore system synchronization. "Node operators will need to restart their Base Mainnet nodes to resume synchronization," the team said.
The episode occurred just one day after another similar interruption. On Thursday, Base had its block production interrupted when an invalid block halted the sequencer after block 47806542. On that occasion, users' assets remained safe, but services such as withdrawals were temporarily unavailable until operations were restored.
According to the incident history released by the technical team, normal block production resumed about two hours after the first problem. As in the most recent occurrence, operators also received instructions to restart their nodes and complete network synchronization.
The alerts issued during Friday indicated that the new failure had characteristics very similar to the one recorded earlier. "Base Mainnet is suffering a chain outage with similar symptoms," one of the alerts said.
The interruptions happened during the same period in which Base was implementing the hard fork Beryl, a relevant upgrade for the network. The change introduced several technical improvements, including the adoption of the B20 token standard and optimizations related to the transaction finality process.
Even with the instabilities recorded during the upgrade window, the team reported that the implementation of Beryl was successfully completed at 20h UTC on Thursday. The rapid recovery of block production allowed the blockchain to resume its operations, while developers continue monitoring the network to identify the causes of the interruptions and avoid new similar episodes.
