US President-elect Donald Trump announced on November 12 that billionaire and cryptocurrency advocate Elon Musk and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy will lead the country’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). In his announcement, Trump highlighted that the strategic positioning of these industry giants will aim to “dismantle government bureaucracy.”
“I am pleased to announce that the Great Elon Musk, working together with American Patriot Vivek Ramaswamy, will lead the Department of Government Efficiency ('DOGE'),” wrote Trump in a recent post on Truth Social.
According to Trump, Musk and Ramaswamy will “dismantle government bureaucracy, cut excessive regulations, slash wasteful spending and restructure federal agencies – essential to the ‘Save America’ movement,” he said.
In his recent statement, Trump highlighted that the goals of the Office of Government Efficiency have been dreamed of by Republicans for “a long time.”
It is worth noting that the purpose of the DOGE agency is to provide advice and guidance outside the federal administration, as well as to work together with the White House and the Office of Management and Budget to “eliminate the enormous waste and fraud” within the federal budget worth US$ 6,5 trillion.
As the president-elect highlighted in his statement, the work must be completed by July 4, 2026 at the latest.
Commenting on the matter on the X media platform, Elon Musk stated that the actions of the DOGE agency “will be published online for maximum transparency”.
“All of the Office of Government Efficiency’s actions will be published online for maximum transparency. Any time the public thinks we’re cutting something important or not cutting something unnecessary, just let us know! We’ll also have a leaderboard for the most insanely stupid spending of your tax dollars. This will be extremely tragic and extremely entertaining.” wrote Musk.
Musk was present during Trump's election campaigns and ended up becoming an influential figure within the president-elect's government.
