- Coinbase to List SUI Futures Contracts in October
- Unlock Event Releases 44 Million SUI Tokens
- Altcoin falls 4,47% amid macroeconomic uncertainty
SUI is facing increasing volatility, even after Coinbase announced it will launch futures contracts for the token on October 20th. Last Tuesday, September 30th, the asset was trading at $3,23, down 0,41% in 24 hours. Despite expectations that the listing would increase liquidity and offer regulated access to trading, the market remained cautious, reflecting broader concerns.
The main pressure factor comes from the unlock event scheduled for October 1st. On that date, 44,25 million SUI tokens, valued at approximately $142,7 million, will enter circulation, representing 0,44% of the total supply. The tokens will be released to insiders, including early investors and developers, who are more likely to partially sell their holdings, generating additional supply in the market.

This movement occurs in an unfavorable context for altcoins. Last week, the SUI accumulated a 4,47% drop, reflecting the risk-aversion sentiment affecting the sector. Rising global inflation and macroeconomic instability have led investors to reduce their exposure to higher-risk, less-mature projects.
Furthermore, Wall Street's involvement with SUI brought increased visibility, but also sensitivity to macroeconomic factors. Mill City Ventures, now renamed Sui Group and listed on Nasdaq, conducted a $450 million private transaction in July, directed at the token's treasuries. While this movement signals institutional confidence, the increased diversification of corporate portfolios also exposes the SUI to fluctuations that major players factor into their strategies.
Meanwhile, the market is monitoring how the balance between the selling pressure from the unlocking and the potential positive impact of the futures listing on Coinbase could affect the asset's price. The expectation is that the increased liquidity offered by regulated contracts will be insufficient to offset the massive inflow of tokens into circulation in the short term.
The SUI's trajectory therefore remains tied to both internal factors, such as unlocking and institutional strategies, and external conditions, marked by the performance of altcoins in a scenario of global uncertainty.
